Star flower seedling management method

Star Flower Seedling Care Guide:

Germination: Keep the environment at a moderate temperature of 23°C with high humidity to ensure germination within 6 to 9 days after sowing.

Light: During germination, maintain a light intensity of around 1,000 lux. Once the seeds have sprouted, gradually increase the light exposure until they receive full sunlight. At the same time, reduce the moisture in the growing medium to prevent elongation. After germination, the ideal light intensity should be between 10,000 and 30,000 lux. As the seedlings develop, increase the light to 54,000 lux while maintaining proper temperature control.

Temperature: After germination, lower the temperature to 20–22°C until the true leaves start to appear. Once the true leaves begin to grow, reduce the temperature to 18–20°C. In the middle and later stages, keep it around 15–18°C until the plants are fully established. This helps promote strong and healthy seedlings.

pH Level: The ideal pH range for the growing medium is 6.5–6.8. If the pH drops below 6.0, iron toxicity can occur, leading to stunted growth. To prevent this, apply a small amount of calcium nitrate (Ca(NO3)2) to help stabilize the pH and improve plant health.

Fertilization: Begin applying a "Cymidine" solution diluted 2000 times once a week after the cotyledons open. About five weeks after sowing, you can switch to a "Leaf Green Essence" solution at a concentration of 1000–1500 times when the seedlings have 2–3 true leaves. Maintain an EC value between 1.0 and 1.5 ms/cm for optimal nutrient uptake.

Moisture: Star flower seedlings thrive in humid conditions, so keep the growing medium consistently moist during the early stages. Avoid misting the plants directly, as they are covered in fine hairs that can be damaged by water droplets. Instead, use a tray watering method to maintain a relative air humidity of around 50%.

Water management should follow the principle of “wet and dry,” but avoid overwatering. Once the roots have developed, apply a 15-10-15 (N:P:K) fertilizer diluted 3000 times, once a week. After the cotyledons expand, you can increase the fertilizer concentration to 2000 times. The ideal temperature for the seedling stage (4–5 weeks after sowing) is 17–20°C. Continue to monitor the EC value, keeping it between 1.0 and 1.5 ms/cm. If the pH falls below 6.0, iron toxicity can severely affect growth, so regular applications of calcium nitrate are recommended to maintain balance.

By following these detailed care steps, your star flower seedlings will develop into strong, healthy plants ready for transplanting or further growth.
