At the sixth international forum on slow-release fertilizer development held in June, government officials emphasized their commitment to gathering industry feedback as they refine future policies. Industry experts anticipate that an official policy supporting these fertilizers could be announced by the end of this year.
In 2013, the Central No. 1 Document highlighted the need to accelerate the development of agricultural machinery and safe agrochemicals, including highly efficient fertilizers and pesticides. It also called for pilot projects to promote low-toxicity, low-residue pesticides and high-performance slow-release fertilizers. Industry professionals believe that the future of the fertilizer market lies in slow-release technology, product diversification, balanced nutrition, and functional enhancement.
However, not all slow-release fertilizer products will qualify for subsidies. Even if a product is eligible, only those meeting strict quality standards will be considered. Reports suggest that the current market is filled with products falsely labeled as "slow-release," many of which do not meet national requirements. These substandard companies are expected to be excluded from any potential subsidy programs.
According to insiders, Zhongjin Zhengda, a leading listed company in the sector, may play a key role in shaping the new policy. The company’s proposals are likely to serve as a foundation for the upcoming regulations, positioning it as a major beneficiary.
