The difference between a ball screw lift and a trapezoidal screw lift

Ball screw lifts and trapezoidal screw lifts are not interchangeable in many situations, and selecting the right one often involves a trade-off between accuracy, stiffness, and load capacity. It's important to note that specifications don't always directly translate into real-world performance.
The ball screw works by converting rotational motion into linear motion, or vice versa, thanks to its efficient design. According to national standard GB/T17587.3-1998 and practical applications, ball screws have largely replaced traditional trapezoidal screws, also known as lead screws. They offer high efficiency and precise positioning, making them ideal for applications where accuracy is critical. When used as the active component, the nut moves linearly based on the rotation of the screw, and this movement can be connected via a nut seat and nut, leading to different application scenarios compared to lead screws.
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) often look for products that fit their specific needs, and in some cases, lead screws are the best option due to cost-effectiveness. Trapezoidal screws are versatile and can be customized to meet particular performance requirements without significantly increasing costs. In certain design phases, life testing may be necessary, but for OEMs, investing in early-stage testing can help reduce long-term expenses.
Ball screws, on the other hand, are capable of continuous operation, can handle heavier loads, and achieve higher speeds, which justifies the increased cost. For end users, the predictability and reliability of ball screws make them an excellent choice for fast integration and long-term performance. Industries like factory automation heavily rely on ball screw technology, and many machine tool systems also depend on it. However, for OEMs, the decision is usually based on performance and cost rather than predictability.
