China Railway Corporation Internally Reports 4 Road Accidents in the First Quarter

The China Railway Corporation recently issued an internal notice titled "Personal Injury Incidents in the First Quarter of 2014." The report revealed that four fatal railway accidents occurred during the first quarter of 2014, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

The notice provided a detailed breakdown of each incident, including the time, location, sequence of events, causes, and preliminary findings from the investigation. Four incidents were reported across three railway bureaus: Zhengzhou, Taiyuan, and Chengdu. On January 4th at 3:00 PM, a signal worker at the Nanyangzhai Signal Section under the Zhengzhou Railway Administration violated safety protocols by entering the restricted area, and was struck by the T236 passenger train, dying at the scene. Another incident occurred on January 6th when a locomotive dispatcher at the Hudong Locomotive Depot’s Jingtang Port workshop fell from a moving vehicle, leading to his death. On March 13th at 1:32 AM, a laborer resting on the right side of the track near K258+490 on the Yuhuai Line at Minjiang Station was hit by the K585 passenger train and killed instantly. Finally, on March 19th at 2:54 PM, a signal worker at the Chengdu North Workshop's Northern Signal Area was struck by the CX614 freight train while walking along the track at K331+377, also dying on the spot.

According to the notice, the root causes of these accidents included unauthorized scheduling of work windows, opening doors during train operations without authorization, and simplifying procedures without proper communication with neighboring trains. All incidents were attributed to the individuals involved, with management accountability also being highlighted as a key factor in these tragic events.
