India’s State Councilor for Textiles, Lakshmi, said that in India, the production of tussah silk has continued to increase over the past few years, indicating an increase in global and domestic demand for Indian tussah. The Indian government has implemented various plans through the Central Silk Bureau to develop the country's tussah silk. According to the Central Sponsored Program - Catalytic Development Program (CDP), assistance in the production of tussah silkworm cocoons, systematic farming, feeding practices, donation and product distribution has expanded. The Central Silk Bureau of India also carried out development projects for the tussah silk culture. Vanya silk, including tussah silk as "green silk" and "organic silk" promoted in the domestic as well as export markets. Karnataka farmers require the government to take measures to protect silkworms, including the financial support mechanism for silkworm farmers when the price of silkworm cocoons is lower than the cost of production. To protect sericulture, the Karnataka government has focused on increasing the productivity of silkworm pupa and raw silk, making sericulture more profitable. The government has taken measures to consolidate research and development in sericulture and conduct various studies. The Central Silk Bureau of India also collaborated with the State Sericulture Bureau to launch a “catalytic development plan†to develop the silkworm and silk industry. According to the catalytic development plan, it provides incentives for the production of quality silk yarn. The Karnataka government also recommends extended support for better technology transfer for silkworm farmers to provide silk productivity and quality. The government also allows the import of modern automatic wire-wound machines and double-mesh wire-wound machines and their accessories with concession tariffs to reduce production costs, make the sericulture and wire-wrapping departments more competitive, and help silkworm farmers and entanglers.
