NTN Cylindrical Bore Bearing Installation on a Press

When installing an NTN cylindrical bore bearing using a press, it is essential to follow proper procedures to ensure the bearing functions correctly and lasts longer. Begin by placing the pad into the inner ring and pressing it firmly against the inner ring with the press, ensuring close contact with the shaft shoulder. Then, position the outer ring onto the inner ring block. This step is crucial to avoid indentation or crushing on the raceway. Before installation, it's recommended to apply lubricant on the mating surfaces to reduce friction and prevent damage. It is strictly advised not to use a hammer to strike the bearing, as this can cause serious damage. Instead, always place a block on the inner ring to distribute pressure evenly during the pressing process. This method is suitable for bearings with limited interference fits, but should not be used for large interference or medium-to-large NTN bearings. For example, deep groove ball bearings and other non-separable bearings require both inner and outer rings to be pressed together. In such cases, use a pad, screw, or hydraulic press to ensure even pressure distribution. For self-aligning ball bearings, the outer ring may tend to tilt, so it's best to install them using a block, even if there is no interference fit. For separable bearings like cylindrical roller and tapered roller bearings, the inner and outer rings can be installed separately on the shaft and housing.
