NTN Cylindrical Bore Bearing Installation on a Press

When installing an NTN cylindrical bore bearing using a press, it's important to follow proper procedures to ensure the bearing operates smoothly and lasts longer. First, place the inner ring on the shaft and press it firmly into position. Make sure the inner ring is in full contact with the shaft stop to prevent any misalignment. Next, position the outer ring over the inner ring. Be careful not to cause any indentation or damage to the raceway during this process. It's crucial to verify that all steps are performed correctly to avoid future issues. Before installation, it's recommended to apply lubricant to the mating surfaces to reduce friction and improve the fitting process. Never use a hammer to install the bearing directly, as this can damage the internal components. Instead, always use a press and ensure the block is properly placed on the inner ring. This method is suitable for bearings with light interference fits but should not be used for large interference or medium-to-large NTN bearings. For example, deep groove ball bearings and other non-separable NTN bearings require both the inner and outer rings to be pressed onto the shaft and housing. In such cases, you can use a pad, screw, or hydraulic pressure to press the rings together. For self-aligning ball bearings, the outer ring may tend to tilt even without interference, so it’s best to use a block when installing them. For separable bearings like cylindrical roller or tapered roller bearings, the inner and outer rings can be installed separately onto the shaft and housing. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure correct installation and optimal performance.
