When installing a TIMKEN thrust bearing, it's essential to check the straightness of the shaft's axial line and the shaft ring. To do this, fix a dial gauge to the casing's end face and place the gauge's contact point on the bearing's shaft raceway. Rotate the bearing and observe the dial pointer. If the needle moves or wobbles, it indicates that the axial line is not aligned with the centerline of the shaft. For deeper housing holes, an extended dial gauge can be used for more accurate measurement. Once the TIMKEN thrust bearing is properly installed, the seat should allow smooth rolling of the rolling elements, ensuring they remain in the correct position between the upper and lower raceways. Improper installation can lead to abnormal operation and severe wear on the mating surfaces. Since the difference between the shaft ring and the seat is usually minimal, careful attention must be given during installation to avoid errors. Additionally, there should be a clearance of 0.2 to 0.5 mm between the TIMKEN imported bearing's seat and the housing bore. This clearance compensates for manufacturing tolerances and potential misalignment during assembly. It allows the bearing ring to adjust itself during operation, preventing collisions and ensuring smooth performance. Without this clearance, excessive stress could damage the bearing and reduce its lifespan.
