China's power transmission and distribution and control equipment industry drives the rapid growth of power electronic components

The Shuiqing Muhua Research Report highlighted the impressive progress made in China’s transmission and distribution and control equipment sector during 2009. This growth was largely fueled by key initiatives such as large-scale long-distance transmission projects, UHV (Ultra High Voltage) grid construction, and the renovation of rural power grids. In that year, the industry reported an annual sales revenue of 656.19 billion yuan, marking a 15.7% increase from the previous year. Total profits reached 49.13 billion yuan, up by 19.5% year-on-year. Driven by this robust performance, the five major sub-sectors within the industry experienced significant expansion in 2009. Notably, the capacitor and auxiliary equipment sub-sector demonstrated the strongest growth, with its primary business revenue increasing by 28.3% and total profits surging by 63.3% compared to the prior year. This remarkable growth can be attributed to several factors: First, China’s rapid advancement in ultra-high voltage technology; second, the implementation of UHV demonstration projects between 2009 and 2010, which brought substantial investments; third, China's growing emphasis on energy conservation, emissions reduction, and improving voltage quality, safety, and energy efficiency. In the first quarter of 2010, however, the industry faced a temporary setback due to reduced state grid investments and lower equipment procurement prices. As the summer peak electricity demand approached and smart grid projects gained momentum, the industry rebounded strongly in the second quarter. Yet, the sub-sectors exhibited varying performances. Power electronic components and power distribution switchgear saw rapid growth, whereas the capacitor and auxiliary equipment sub-sector experienced a sharp decline. Looking ahead to 2010, the transmission and distribution and control equipment industry is expected to maintain its upward trajectory, bolstered by China’s rising power demands and ongoing key projects like high-voltage transmission. Power distribution switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, and inductors are anticipated to remain the key drivers of growth for the entire industry throughout the year. This sector's continuous innovation and adaptation to evolving energy needs underscore its pivotal role in China’s expanding power infrastructure. As global concerns about sustainability deepen, the focus on energy-efficient solutions and smart grid technologies will likely propel further advancements in this dynamic field.
