Abstract Recently, the China Stone Association has honored Qitai County in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with the title of “China Stone (Granite) Industrial Base,†which is the most prestigious award in the national stone industry. This recognition not only highlights the county's significance in the sector but also marks its achievement as a “National Quality Wheat and Barley Township.†The title was officially granted after a rigorous evaluation process, further solidifying Qitai’s reputation as a leading region in both agriculture and mineral resources.
Qitai County is rich in granite deposits, particularly in the Sujiquan area of the Beitashan Mountains. These granite reserves are vast, with high-quality stone that features minimal color variation, shallow mineral layers, and ease of extraction. The granite is mainly used for exterior building decoration and is considered one of the rarest yellow granites globally. Its fine-grained texture and unique patterns—ranging from yellow and white to blue and black—create an elegant and luxurious appearance, making it highly sought after by domestic stone companies.
In recent years, the county has actively implemented the regional strategy of transforming natural resources into economic advantages. With abundant granite resources, Qitai has significantly increased investment in the construction of the building materials industry. A regional-level industrial park was established, and a 4.4-square-kilometer stone industrial park was planned and developed, achieving full infrastructure development including road access, power supply, water supply, communication, and site leveling. Currently, 78 enterprises operate within the park.
In 2012, the county produced 10.65 million square meters of stone plates, a 61% increase compared to 2011. The industrial output reached 1.27 billion yuan, up 59% year-on-year, while the added value amounted to 445 million yuan, a 63% rise. This accounted for 25.9% of the county's total industrial added value and contributed 28% to the growth of the local industrial economy, driving it by 17%. Qitai's stone plate production represents over 50% of Xinjiang's total and more than 3% of the national market. Its products have been exported to over 20 provinces, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang, as well as more than 10 countries like Kazakhstan.
Three local brands—Kalamailijin, Kalamaili Silver, and Gobi Sapphire—have been recognized as “National Famous Stone Grades†by the China Stone Association and received the title of “National Building Materials Stone Number.†Among them, Kalamaili has become one of China's top ten best-selling domestic granite brands.
Looking ahead, Qitai County will leverage its status as a “China Stone (Granite) Industrial Base†to seize new development opportunities. Under the guidance of sustainable resource development and environmental protection, the county will focus on key areas such as plate production, park expansion, mine management, safety, and industrial upgrading. By accelerating the development of the stone industry, Qitai aims to achieve new breakthroughs and make significant contributions to the county’s economic leap forward.Pergola Canopy,Green Pavilion,Louvered Pergola,Pergola Aluminum
