Qitai County won the title of China Granite Industry Base

Qitai County in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has recently been honored with the title of "China Stone (Granite) Industrial Base" by the China Stone Association. This prestigious award is the highest recognition in the national stone industry, and it also marks Qitai as a "National Quality Wheat and Barley Township." The county has since received multiple national accolades, highlighting its growing importance in both agriculture and mineral resources. Qitai is rich in granite deposits, mainly located in the Sujiquan area of the Beitashan Mountains. The region boasts large reserves, high-quality stone, minimal color variation, shallow deposits, and ease of extraction. The granite is primarily used for exterior building decoration and is considered one of the rare yellow granites globally. Its fine-grained structure and hard texture create unique patterns of yellow, white, blue, and black, making it luxurious, elegant, and highly sought after by domestic stone companies. In recent years, Qitai has actively implemented the regional strategy of transforming natural resources into economic advantages. With significant investment and effort, the county has developed its building materials industry, establishing an industrial park at the autonomous region level. A 4.4-square-kilometer stone industrial park was planned and constructed, achieving full infrastructure development including roads, power, water, communication, and site leveling. Currently, 78 enterprises operate within the park. By 2012, the county produced 10.65 million square meters of granite plates, a 61% increase from the previous year. The industrial output reached 1.27 billion yuan, up 59% year-on-year, while the added value amounted to 445 million yuan, a 63% rise. These figures accounted for 25.9% of the county's total industrial added value and contributed 28% to its industrial growth, driving economic expansion by 17%. Qitai’s plate production represents over 50% of Xinjiang’s total stone output and more than 3% of the national market. The county's granite products have been exported to over 20 provinces in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang, as well as more than 10 countries, including Kazakhstan. Three local brands—Kalamailijin, Kalamaili Silver, and Gobi Sapphire—were recognized as "National Famous Stone Grades" by the China Stone Association and received the National Building Materials Stone Number. Kalamaili has become one of China’s top-selling domestic granite brands. Looking ahead, Qitai will leverage its status as a "China Stone (Granite) Industrial Base" to seize new development opportunities. Under the guidance of sustainable resource management and environmental protection, the county will focus on key areas such as plate production, park development, mining area management, safety, and industrial upgrading. These efforts aim to accelerate the growth of the stone industry, achieve new breakthroughs, and make a significant contribution to the economic leap of Qitai County.
