The Chengdu Furniture Fair has played a pivotal role in advancing the development of Sichuan's furniture sector over the past 13 years. When the fair began, Quanyou, one of the leading brands, had an annual revenue of only 100 million yuan. Today, thanks to the exposure and opportunities provided by the fair, its scale has grown exponentially, reaching billions annually. Similarly, Shuanghu and other local brands have thrived under this initiative. Currently, there are over 60 Chengdu-based furniture enterprises with an annual output exceeding 100 million yuan. Rong Yuwei, Secretary General of the Sichuan Furniture Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, noted that the fair has become the largest domestic trade platform for furniture in China, facilitating approximately 70% of Sichuan’s furniture enterprises' annual sales.
Organized by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce, the 13th Chengdu International Furniture Industry Exhibition and the 6th Home Furnishing Culture and Arts Festival took place at the New Century City International Convention and Exhibition Center. With the theme “Leading Domestic Demand and Sharing the Future,†the event attracted close to 160,000 professional buyers from around the world over four days. The total on-site transactions amounted to 10.6 billion yuan. The long-term economic benefits generated by the exhibition are projected to exceed 48 billion yuan. Despite challenges posed by a shrinking export market due to the financial crisis and the cooling of domestic first-tier cities, the Chengdu Furniture Fair managed to defy these odds and deliver impressive results—a true testament to its resilience and innovation.
A well-known solid wood furniture brand participating in the fair shared their success story, stating they had seen remarkable achievements on the opening day, with on-site sales surpassing 30 million yuan. Another unexpected highlight came from a small sofa manufacturer named Lingxiu, which initially had low expectations but ended up signing contracts with over 90 distributors within just the first two days—three times their initial target.
Jiang Dan, General Manager of Chengdu New Oriental Exhibition Co., Ltd., emphasized that the mutual growth between the Chengdu Furniture Fair and the broader furniture industry in Sichuan is undeniable. Leveraging Sichuan’s robust furniture manufacturing base, the fair has evolved from a modest regional exhibition covering less than 5,000 square meters to becoming a nationally recognized platform for domestic trade in furniture.
This year’s fair saw an even broader array of participants, including not only traditional markets like Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Fujian but also extending to buyers from Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, and Shenyang. Despite the challenging economic climate, both furniture businesses and manufacturers have found fertile ground in China’s second-, third-, and fourth-tier cities. These areas present significant untapped consumer potential, making the Chengdu Furniture Fair a key event for domestic trade development. Jiang Dan further highlighted that this year’s fair witnessed an improvement in the overall quality of distributors, with groups such as the Guangdong Furniture Chamber of Commerce organizing delegations of over 800 high-end dealers from the national first-tier market.
Looking ahead, the fair aims to establish itself as the "core growth pole for domestic furniture trade in China." Over the next few years, organizers hope to deepen its influence and attract even more top-tier participants, ensuring the fair remains at the forefront of China's furniture industry.
