Chromium is the main element in high-chromium cast iron. It can greatly improve the hardenability of the material and make the cooling transition curve shift to the right. When the content is more than 10%, the high-hardness carbide can be formed. As the amount of chromium increases, the amount of eutectic carbide increases, and its morphology changes. From Cr7C3 to Cr23C6 with higher hardness, the hardness of the matrix increases sharply. However, the excessively high chromium content greatly reduces the impact toughness of the material. This determines the chromium content.
