With the advancement of infrared imaging technology, the use of infrared waterproof cameras has become more widespread and is now considered a growing trend in modern security solutions.
One common issue with infrared waterproof cameras is fog and water vapor buildup, which can impair visibility and reduce the effectiveness of the camera. This problem can occur both inside and outside the camera housing, and each case requires different solutions.
In the first scenario, fog forms inside the camera. This happens due to condensation when warm, moist air comes into contact with cooler internal surfaces. This is especially common with indoor cameras, where temperature fluctuations can cause moisture to accumulate on the protective glass, making it difficult for the camera to capture clear images. To address this, manufacturers often implement various methods such as adding defrost circuits, vent holes, nitrogen filling, or desiccants. However, the most effective solution starts at the material level—ensuring that components like PCB boards are free from flux residues and that sealing materials are high-quality silicone to prevent moisture ingress.
In the second case, fog and frost appear on the outside of the camera. This typically occurs in high-humidity environments where dust and moisture can settle on the protective window, blocking the lens. To solve this, some models come equipped with wipers that clean the glass automatically, while others use special "invisible wiper" glass that repels water and dirt. Additionally, for cameras installed in colder regions, maintaining a tight seal is crucial to prevent internal condensation caused by large temperature differences between the inside and outside of the housing.
Currently, there are still challenges in sealing technology, especially in certain regions where housing design and joint interfaces may allow water to seep in. To improve the waterproof performance, several strategies can be applied: using waterproof rubber sleeves, applying waterproof gaskets at connection points, and using high-quality silicone materials. Also, aluminum alloy shells help increase the precision of the housing interface, further enhancing durability and weather resistance.
Another common issue with infrared waterproof cameras is image flickering. This usually occurs when the infrared lights turn on and off rapidly due to fluctuating ambient light levels. When the light intensity is just below the threshold, the camera may switch the infrared lamp on and off repeatedly, causing the image to flicker. This is not a sign of poor quality but rather an inherent characteristic of the system's design. Flickering can lead to reduced image quality, unnecessary wear on the IR lamps, and even the appearance of an "infrared eye" in color images.
To resolve this issue, there are several approaches. First, adjusting the threshold setting can help stabilize the switching of the infrared lights. Some manufacturers offer different threshold options depending on the model, and choosing a higher threshold can reduce the frequency of flickering. Second, modifying the installation angle or lighting conditions can also help avoid situations where the camera is constantly near the threshold. Finally, using high-quality low-light cameras with backlight compensation and specialized IR lenses can significantly improve performance in challenging lighting conditions.
It's also important to note that during testing or demonstrations, if an object reflects infrared light back into the camera, it may cause temporary flickering. However, under normal installation conditions, this issue should not occur. As long as the camera is positioned correctly and not exposed to direct infrared reflection from nearby objects, the image quality should remain stable and reliable.
