The application process of fluorocarbon paint varies depending on the type of material used for spraying. Here is a detailed guide on how to apply fluorocarbon coating on exterior walls, ensuring a smooth and long-lasting finish.
Base Layer Requirements
1. The quality of the plastering and concrete base must meet the standards outlined in the "JGJ Building Decoration Engineering Construction and Acceptance Specifications."
2. The surface should be free from dirt, including joints, window frames, and other areas. Any contamination must be thoroughly cleaned before proceeding.
3. The base layer must be solid, without cracks, peeling, or loose particles. The flatness should not exceed 2mm, and the surface must be clean with no dust or foreign particles.
4. For new plastered cement mortar walls, it is recommended to cure them for at least 10 days in summer and 20 days in winter. Cast-in-place concrete walls should be cured for at least 21 days in summer and 28 days in winter. The moisture content should not exceed 10%, and the pH level should be below 9.
Surface Preparation
1. Check the wall's flatness. Protrusions should be sanded down, while deep holes or cracks should be filled with cement mortar and smoothed out.
2. Large cracks need to be cut open and filled with high-elastic putty in multiple layers until the surface is even. After each layer dries, it should be smoothed with a trowel.
3. Use a brush, scraper, or sandpaper to remove any debris or loose cement from the wall surface.
4. Ensure the surface meets the flatness requirement of ≤ 2mm.
5. The wall surface should be clean, dry, and free from dust and loose particles.
Special Anti-Cracking Putty for Fluorocarbon Paint
1. This putty is specifically designed for use with fluorocarbon paint to prevent cracking and ensure durability.
Fluorocarbon Coating Formulation (Chlorofluoroethylene-Vinyl Acetate Type)
1. Mix the putty with water in a ratio of 20:1:8. It must be fully stirred using a hand mixer to avoid lumps.
2. The maximum standing time for the mixed putty is 4 hours. Do not use it beyond that time, as the slurry will harden and become unusable. Before applying, check the wall surface for any dirt or contaminants and clean them if necessary.
3. Apply the putty using a 2-meter aluminum ruler. First, spread it once, then again, keeping a consistent speed and pressure. Uneven force may cause wave-like patterns, affecting the final flatness.
Fluorocarbon Coating Formulation (Tetrafluoroethylene-Vinyl Ether Type)
4. Apply decorative tape along the required lines and fill the area between the tapes with putty. Once dry, carefully remove the tape.
5. Apply the putty in 4–5 layers to ensure full coverage and proper adhesion.
6. Allow the putty layer to dry within 4 hours, then sand it with 120 or 150 mesh sandpaper.
7. After sanding, ensure the wall surface is completely smooth, with straight edges and well-defined moldings.
It’s important to note that if the special fluorocarbon putty becomes too hard or difficult to sand, it can lead to wasted labor and materials. A rough or oily surface must be fully polished before moving forward, as this will save time and resources in the long run.
