On the 20th, the Hubei Iron and Steel Material Merchants Association was officially established in Wuhan. As the steel industry faces a harsh winter, over 500 steel trading companies across Hubei are taking steps to strengthen their positions and prepare for the challenges ahead. The association was jointly launched by major players such as Longfa Group, Huitong Group, Shanhaichuan Steel Trading, and Huarong Logistics. It has received official approval from the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, making it a non-profit, comprehensive, and functional organization that serves the entire iron and steel sector. With more than 500 members, including producers, traders, and logistics firms, the association aims to provide professional support in areas like policy updates, investment guidance, and market analysis.
According to Lu Jianguo, chairman of both the Hubei Iron and Steel Material Merchants Association and Longfa Iron and Steel Group, 2013 will be a crucial year for the steel industry, marked by fierce competition and survival of the fittest. Companies with limited capabilities may struggle or even shut down. The formation of the chamber is intended to protect the interests of steel trade enterprises while also creating a more efficient communication channel between businesses and the government. This collaboration is expected to help streamline information sharing, better respond to market fluctuations, and open new business opportunities.
Currently, there are approximately 1,889 steel production companies nationwide, along with 1,500 steel trading and logistics firms. A significant portion—about one-third—of the iron and steel industry in Hubei is represented within this newly formed association, signaling a strong push toward unity and resilience in the face of economic uncertainty.
