On the 20th, the Hubei Iron and Steel Material Merchants Association was officially launched in Wuhan. In response to the challenging winter faced by the industry, over 500 steel trading companies across Hubei are now preparing for a more stable and collaborative future.
The association was jointly initiated by major players such as Longfa Group, Huitong Group, Shanhaichuan Steel Trading, and Huarong Logistics. It has been officially recognized by the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs as a non-profit, comprehensive, and functional social organization. With over 500 member companies involved in steel production, sales, and logistics, the association aims to provide professional support in areas like policy updates, investment guidance, and business consulting.
Lu Jianguo, chairman of the first Hubei Iron and Steel Material Merchants Association and CEO of Longfa Iron and Steel Group, emphasized that 2013 would be a crucial year for the survival of the fittest in the steel industry. He warned that weaker enterprises might face severe challenges, including possible closures. The establishment of the association is intended not only to protect the interests of steel traders but also to create a stronger link between businesses and the government. This will help improve information sharing, better respond to market fluctuations, and open up new opportunities for growth.
Currently, there are around 1,889 steel manufacturing companies nationwide, along with 1,500 steel trading and logistics firms, with approximately one-third of the iron and steel industry operating in Hubei.
