The unit value is directly reproduced by itself, that is, the nominal value of the gauge is the actual size of the unit magnitude, for example, the gauge itself reproduces the unit of the length amount.
There is generally no measuring mechanism in the structure, no indicators or moving parts. If the gauge block is just a real thing that reproduces the unit value.
Since there is no measuring mechanism, if it is not dependent on other measuring instruments, the measured value cannot be directly measured. For example, the gauge block should be equipped with an interferometer or an optical meter. It is therefore a passive measuring instrument.
