Spray insecticide is not effective against bed bugs

For decades, spray insecticides have been used to combat a variety of household pests. However, a recent study published in the June issue of the Journal of Economic Entomology (JEE) showed that these products are ineffective against bed bugs (Hemiptera).
Lead author, Dr. Susan C. Jones of Ohio University and colleagues, said: “We often feel that spray insecticides sold in stores have little or no effect on bed bugs, and some pest control companies often give such Feedback, but there has been a lack of empirical support. This test demonstrates for the first time that it is not appropriate to use spray insecticides to control this growing urban pest."
Jones and others purchased three brands of spray insecticide from a national chain pharmacy and experimented with five bed bugs. The results showed that the three spray insecticides had almost no adverse effects on bed bugs. Bugs are less likely to be exposed to insecticide sprays because they hide under the mattress, in the gaps, under the carpet for most of the time. And even if they are exposed to the spray, many bed bugs have varying degrees of resistance, so there is a high probability that they will survive after taking this insecticide.
Jones concluded: "If you use these products, you will not only be able to control pests and diseases , but also waste money, delay the implementation of effective disposal measures, and enhance the resistance of bedbugs. Bedbugs are the most difficult and most damaging urban pests, usually required Professionals can handle it correctly."
