The future of LED lights may want to attribute their development to the most brilliant biological fireflies in nature.

Fireflies use light-emitting properties to attract the opposite sex: the brighter the light emitted, the more likely it is to attract female fireflies.

The body of the firefly has a place known as the "lantern", which is located on the outer layer of the luminous organ, allowing the fireflies to emit the brightest light with the least amount of energy.

The research team of the Korea Advanced Institute of Technology used electron microscopy to measure the luminous intensity of the firefly and then copied this structure onto the LED lens.

They found that the new LED lenses deliver 3% more light than traditional glossy lenses, which greatly improves the efficiency of LED bulbs.
