China's first magnetic bearing with independent intellectual property rights is now available in Fuyang, marking a significant breakthrough in domestic bearing technology. This development comes as a milestone for China, positioning itself among a select group of countries like the United States, France, Germany, and Canada that have mastered magnetic bearing manufacturing. The high-speed magnetic bearing, capable of operating at 23,000 to 27,000 revolutions per minute, was successfully developed by Zhejiang Feixuan Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhejiang Feihong Group. The project was officially recognized on January 7th by an expert appraisal committee led by Academician Wang Yuming from the Chinese Academy of Engineering. This achievement broke the long-standing foreign technology monopoly and marked a major step forward in China’s self-reliance in advanced bearing technology. Magnetic bearings, also known as electromagnetic suspension bearings, represent a revolutionary advancement in the field. Unlike traditional bearings that rely on oil or gas lubrication, magnetic bearings use electromagnetic forces to suspend the rotor in mid-air, eliminating mechanical contact. This results in features such as no wear, low energy consumption, high speed, low noise, and a long service life. These advantages make them ideal for high-performance applications. The technology has broad applications in fields such as aerospace, military, petrochemicals, power, and vacuum molecular pumps. Due to its strategic importance, magnetic bearing technology is considered sensitive internationally, with many developed countries imposing export restrictions on China. This makes the successful development of an indigenous magnetic bearing system even more valuable. Zhejiang Feixuan Technology, backed by the Tsinghua University Nuclear Energy and New Dynamics Technology Research Institute, has already developed a magnetic bearing suitable for integrated circuits. Several prototype models have been tested and are now moving toward mass production and industrialization. This breakthrough not only enhances China’s technological competitiveness but also opens up new possibilities for future innovations in precision machinery and high-speed systems. As the industry moves forward, the impact of this development will be felt across multiple sectors, contributing to China’s growing reputation in advanced engineering solutions.
