China's first magnetic bearing with independent intellectual property rights is available in Fuyang

China's first magnetic bearing with independent intellectual property rights has now become available in Fuyang, marking a significant breakthrough in the country's high-tech manufacturing sector. This development is particularly impressive as it breaks the long-standing foreign technology monopoly and places China among a select group of nations—such as the United States, France, Germany, and Canada—that have mastered this advanced engineering skill. The magnetic bearing, which operates at rotor speeds ranging from 23,000 to 27,000 revolutions per minute, was successfully developed by Zhejiang Feixuan Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Zhejiang Feihong Group. The project was recognized by an expert appraisal committee led by Academician Wang Yuming from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who praised the achievement as a major milestone in China’s magnetic bearing technology. Magnetic bearings, also known as magnetic levitation bearings, represent a revolutionary advancement in the field of mechanical engineering. Unlike traditional bearings that rely on oil or gas for lubrication, magnetic bearings use electromagnetic forces to suspend the rotor in mid-air, eliminating mechanical contact. This results in zero wear, low energy consumption, high speed, minimal noise, and a significantly longer lifespan. These features make them ideal for use in high-performance applications such as vacuum molecular pumps, aerospace, military systems, and industrial machinery. The significance of this innovation cannot be overstated. Magnetic bearing technology is considered internationally sensitive due to its wide range of applications, and many developed countries impose strict export controls on such technologies. With this new development, China is now capable of producing these critical components independently, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and enhancing national technological sovereignty. Zhejiang Feixuan Technology collaborated closely with the Tsinghua University Nuclear Energy and New Dynamics Technology Research Institute to develop a magnetic bearing suitable for integrated circuits. Several prototypes have already been tested by users, and the company is now preparing for mass production and industrialization. This marks a crucial step forward in bringing cutting-edge magnetic bearing technology to market. In addition to its technical achievements, this development highlights the growing strength of China’s private enterprises in driving innovation. Zhejiang Feixuan, listed among China’s Top 500 Private Enterprises, has demonstrated the potential of domestic companies to lead in advanced manufacturing and research. As the demand for high-efficiency, low-maintenance mechanical systems continues to grow, the impact of magnetic bearing technology will only expand. From transportation to energy and beyond, this breakthrough is set to play a key role in shaping the future of industrial engineering in China and globally.
