Swiss manufacturers develop new composite machine tools

Swiss Starraghechert has developed a compound machine tool "STC 630" with excellent chip discharge performance, which was exhibited at the "2005 European Machine Tool Show (EMO2005)", opened in Hanover, Germany on September 14, 2005 (Fig.) . This product combines the MC (machining center) function of the mounting and rotating tool with the function of the stage that rotates the workpiece. The main shaft is designed such that the top end of the tool faces the horizontal direction, that is, the horizontal MC design is adopted. It is easy to drop the chips generated by the tool cutting workpiece. Mainly for the cutting of larger parts such as aircraft parts and advanced auto parts. The price is 850,000 euros.

The spindle on the MC side moves in the X-axis in the front-rear direction and the Y-axis in the vertical direction. On the side of the stage, a rotating stage is disposed in the vertical direction to detect the workpiece toward the horizontal direction. The rotating stage can also be configured with a cradle-like "stage" in the vertical direction. Therefore, the stage actually has a C-axis that rotates about the center of the stage and a B-axis that extends the cradle-like "stage".

Since the spindle on the MC side has a vertical design, even if a deep hole is machined by a tool such as a drill, the chip is discharged from the hole to the outside and then falls on the bottom surface of the machine. Therefore, it is easy to handle the chips without adding a chip handling device.

Based on the above structure, the company also improved the rigidity of the STC 630. Therefore, the processing of hard workpieces can also be supported.
