Australia: Newcastle, the largest coal port, was forced to close

Australian environmentalists rushed into three coal handling ports this Sunday and attached themselves to the loader. Newcastle, the world’s largest coal port, was forced to close.

The event was planned and implemented by Rising Tide, a climate change organization in Newcastle, which forced all three major coal handling ports operated by Waratah Coal Port Services to close.

Rising Tide claims that 50 people participated in the event. Some people rushed into the harbor before dawn on Sunday, lowered the equipment, and attached themselves to the loader. Others played slogans.

Rising Tide also claimed to have ceased all operations at the port. Climate events, such as the Russian fires and the floods in Pakistan, are consistent with the scientific predictions of climate change. The organization believes that Australia’s coal exports are one of the culprits responsible for climate change and climate events.

Located in the north of Sydney, Newcastle is the world's largest coal export port and the main source of Australia’s buzz.
